With the recent one-year anniversary of Broadway’s closure, theatre lovers have been optimistically looking towards upcoming musical-to-film adaptations to see them through this tough time. These films bring the magic of Broadway into the homes and local movie theaters of fans in a medium that is exciting, and more accessible to those of different socio-economic and regional backgrounds.
This magic is especially valued now, as creatives have been forced off the stage due to COVID-19 health restrictions and fans are missing the feeling of being in the theatre.

The starring role of Maria will be played by 19 year old Rachel Zegler who was cast straight out of high school, and whose stunning vocals that have captured the attention and hearts of theatre fans. The supporting cast has lots of representation from Broadway performers, as well as Rita Moreno, the original Anita of the 1961 film. The new and final release date is December 10th, 2021.
